Rant & Rave - Sept. 3

Live Oak — Suwannee Countians, it's time to speak your mind! How? By calling the Suwannee Democrat Rant and Rave hotline. The hotline never closes and is your way to let it out. You can let everyone know how you feel -- as long as you express yourself in a respectful way.

Note: In written entries to Rant and Rave, errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation are those of the authors.

I have a complaint about the Suwannee County transportation system as far as public schools go. I want to know since when do the bus drivers get to decide which child they want to pick up and which one they don’t? I have been having problems, this bus driver can’t come two more minutes down the road to pick up my daughter or to bring her home to me. I have called the school board, the transportation system  and still nothing. I keep being told I have to wait longer and longer, every day I get a phone call saying we will be there this day and then they call back and say oh we can’t come. I want to know what is being done to resolve this issue.

Yeah, a little politics. Two elections Debbie Boyd used  Big Boyd, Little Debbie. New deal, Big Debbie, very little Boyd. Is everyone baling out on Allen? Good. One commissioner gone, one left. we’ll get him later. Get out the broom. Clean sweep. Let’s start over.

In reply to an article about the animal control officer and the city code enforcement officer that made reference to alcohol in the city vehicle, that was not the case. They need to get their facts right before they speak. The alcohol was in his personally owned vehicle, a Ford truck. So let’s get the message out there and make it clear and accurate and not assume.

Hello, I am calling about the need for a collection point for plastic bottles in Suwannee County. Are we going to have to haul them to another county or can you find out something and have it in the paper please. Because this is awful that we are just filling up the landfill with these plastic bottles because they won’t have a collection point for them. See what you can do. Thank you.

We agree there’s a need for greater recycling opportunities in Suwannee County. The county commission has made progress on this matter in the last year, as we’ve reported, but there’s still quite a ways to go. - Editor

I am just calling to find out if I don’t have enough time in the 45 seconds to get my point across, then what do I have to do to get my point across, can I call back or what?

We don’t time calls to the second, so if you go a little over, your submission won’t automatically be discarded. Please just do your best to keep it brief. - Editor

Hi, I just wanted to rant about the dog catcher. And I think that before y’all fired her, that y’all should have taken her out there to Wal-Mart and tied her down in the back of a truck for an hour. And as far as the person writing in saying what a good job she has done, apparently they do not live in the city. ‘Cause you can ride around, I counted eight stray dogs just in a  quarter of a mile radius just this morning, taking my children to school, thank you.

This is in response to the rant that started “I am not knowledgeable....” First of all I would agree they are not knowledgeable. They seem to be under the impression that the President is in support of building the mosque in New York, when in fact he is in support [message ends].

The voting constitutes for the candidates seeking the seat for SUWANNEE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS - DISTRICT TWO have spoken and said “YES” Mr. Fleming you are qualified enough.  CONGRATULATION!!!!!

The disunity is regular working folks & the ruling elite, and it is nationwide. Hardly the fault of the Democrat. The salaries are public info. that should be released regularly. Folks might not be so riled if performance and results matched the pay. The gov't., at all levels, is the only sector that pays so well for shoddy work. The liquor issue would appear to fuel the disunity locally far above anything else. This column has shown support for abolishing the ban as the vast majority. I'ts going to happen sooner or later, so let's get it over with for unity's sake. Since our leadership pretends the issue doesn't exist, maybe the disunity is with out of touch officials. Individual rights and freedoms are the strength & foundation of this country, like it or not. It sure ain't politicians put in power by a very small percentage.

My fellow reader, please accept my sincere apology. I didn't mean to offend anyone with the $1.98 word, ( it is a doozy, though ain't it!). I was trying to be polite and not use the "good ole boy" cliche. A scholar I'm not, in fact I'm sure you could educate me on the Bible quite a bit and there is no sarcasm intended, I could use it 'cause I got plenty of short comings myself. No disagreement about socialism either, just saying it might even get worse than that. I have complete respect for your spiritual beliefs and ask the same, we're gonna need it. I admit that I do try to get folks to think a bit cause of the situation we are all in, but ain't trying to make enemies, ever. A tip of the hat for your acronym by the way, I'll never forget what B.I.B.L.E stands for & I'll never put an s on Revelation again, but you spelled basic wrong. Just joshin' a little on that, an open exchange of thoughts & ideas is always a good thing.

Boy, law enforcement could really rake in the money if it were to cite the parents driving to/from the public schools.  The cities and county could probably reduce property taxes by 20%!  Oh, of course we’d have to ask if the citizens would be safer afterwards.

This is in regards to wensday paper about Is your water meter being read. Since the 2 guys that read the meters say they read them all why is it that my water bill has been the same about for years???? Also since they say the read them all little word of advice i have cameras on the outside of my house and they tell a different story. So next time you tell a story to the democrat get your Ducks in a row.

~~

I wonder how many of us read the small  print on the left side of the water bill.  I couldn't believe my eyes this morning when I saw the advice given to us to "Always wear them seat belts." Is this a joke? What idiot wrote that? Must be the same people who feel it's a good idea for the beautification of our community to have full garbage cans left out on the streets all week. Most cities don't allow that. But here, I guess that's just not important.
