Live Oak —
The field of applicants for Suwannee County’s new county administrator was narrowed to 10 during Tuesday’s Board of County Commission meeting.
District 1 Commissioner Jesse Caruthers recommended applicants George Dempsey of Live Oak and Joseph Miranti of Saint Cloud while District 2 Commissioner Clyde Fleming submitted the names of Tori Musgrove of Live Oak and Timothy Williams of Wellborn. District 3 Commissioner Ivie Folwer’s recommendations were William Higginbotham Jr. of Seminole, Fla. and Constantino Purrinos of Miami. The choices of District 4 Commissioner Philip Oxendine were John McCue of Orange City, Fla. and Randy Harris of Live Oak. District 5 Commissioner Wesley Wainwright’s choices were George Barwick of Crawfordville and Mike Konefal of Port Charlotte.
The position, which was vacated by County Coordinator Joe Gerrity in December, closed on April 12, attracting 24 applicants from all over the state of Florida.
During Tuesday’s BOCC meeting, each of the five county commissioners submitted the names of two applicants that will be interviewed to fill the county administrator position.
Later in the meeting, the BOCC voted unanimously to hold the interview process at Live Oak City Hall on June 7, beginning at 9 a.m.
Meanwhile, a background check will be conducted on the 10 finalists. According to Wainwright, that process should take about two weeks. The Board agreed that if one or more of the 10 candidates should decline an interview, the commissioner(s) who picked the candidate(s) may select from the pool of the remaining 14 applicants.
