Live Oak —
The Live Oak hairdresser that was found dead in his home Sunday night was shot nine times by a 16-year-old local boy, according to Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron.
Cameron also said the victim was acquainted with the teen.
“I don’t know how well they knew each other. I just know they knew each other,” Cameron stated.
Anthony Michael Ortiz, 16, of the 1600 block of NW Hamilton Ave., was arrested late Monday night after officials followed leads that directed them to him in the murder and armed robbery of 49-year-old Charles David Napier, who was found shot to death Sunday night at the 6074 127th Place home in which he lived with his mother.
Cameron stated that Napier’s body was discovered around 7 p.m. in the kitchen of the home. Cameron said that Napier’s mother discovered him after she returned home from a family trip in West Florida. A sister of Napier called 911.
“We are unsure of the time, but believe this happened Saturday,” Cameron said of the murder. Cameron said Napier was cooking in the kitchen prior to being shot.
According to Cameron, the front entry door was open but a screen door attached to it was closed. He said the door was unlocked and there appeared to be no signs of forced entry.
Cameron confirmed that a robbery occurred but it appeared nothing was taken.
According to Cameron, Ortiz shot Napier with a handgun nine times, but was unsure if a struggle had occurred between Napier and Ortiz.
Ortiz was charged with first degree murder in the death of Charles David Napier and armed robbery, Cameron said. He is being held in a Gainesville Juvenile Detention Center.
