H1N1 vaccinations planned for Lafayette students

Information and consent packets sent home with students Oct. 15

From the Lafayette County Health Department

The Lafayette County Health Department is beginning a H1N1 (Swine Flu) countywide vaccination campaign. We will be offering the vaccine to priority groups in Lafayette County. The first priority groups will include:

* pregnant women and

* school age students

Vaccine and supplies are being ordered weekly. We expect to begin immunizations in the school during the first week of November. A definite date will be determined based on the number of vaccine doses received and the number of consent forms received back from parents.

A packet of material about H1N1 (Swine Flu) vaccination was sent home with every public school student in kindergarten through 12th grade. Parents are encouraged to:

* get the packet from their student

* carefully read the information

* sign the consent form and

* return it to their child's homebase teacher by October 23, 2009.

The packet contains a letter from Pam Blackmon, the Health Department Administrator, vaccine information sheets, the Health Department's Privacy Statement and a consent form. All material is in English and Spanish. If, after reading the information, a parent has questions about their child receiving vaccine, they may call the Lafayette County Health Department at 386-294-1321 or the Florida Flu Line at 1-877-352-3581 or visit the Florida Flu Web site at www.myflusafety.com.
