A scholarship fund has been set up in memory of Tom Abercrombie, his wife Angela said Friday.
The Tommy Abercrombie Athletic Scholarship will be open to students in all areas of athletics. Angela Abercrombie said the criteria for awarding the scholarship have not been determined.
The funds to establish the scholarship came from donors who wanted to assist the Abercrombie family with expenses while commuting to and from Gainesville during Tom Abercrombie’s hospitalization.
Angela Abercrombie said the money was never touched, and that she thought the scholarship would be a good use for the funds.
"I thought it would be an appropriate use for the money that people already donated to Tommy, because he loved Suwannee athletics," she said.
Abercrombie said she wanted to thank the whole community and all those that have shared their prayers, concerns and well wishes.
"We've been so overwhelmed by the generosity of the community," she said.
Donations to the scholarship fund can be made at any First Federal Bank of Florida location in Live Oak or Lake City.
Tom Abercrombie died Dec. 26 from injuries sustained in a fall.
