Our View - Happy carting (May 29)
We question the wisdom of golf carts on city streets, but the city council seems set on it, so we'll defer to their judgment. At least for now.
All we ask - all we insist on - is aggressive enforcement of the rules. The soon-to-be-passed ordinance allows those 16 and up to pilot these machines on streets with a speed limit of 25 mph or less. What worries us is an adventurous 8-year-old darting out onto US 90 in rush hour traffic. Nobody wants to read about that on the front page of the Democrat.
Knowing the Live Oak Police Department, the boys in blue will do everything they can to keep carters of all ages safe. Which is a shame in itself, as officers will have that much less time to chase down the folks we're really worried about - the armed robbers and pedophiles we read about regularly on Page 1A.
