Live Oak —
While most people enjoyed the cozy temperatures of their homes during the frigid hours of Saturday and Sunday nights, the family of Walter and Karen Hurst worked diligently to ensure their blueberry crop would be protected from the sub-freezing temperatures.
After unseasonably warm weather, the blueberries of Hurst Family Farms are slightly ahead of schedule this year. In order to protect the buds that the bushes have already produced, the Hurst family irrigated the crop during the nighttime hours and created a protective layer of ice.
According to Karen Hurst, the blueberries should be ready for harvest in March.
