Live Oak — Steve Southerland, the Republican candidate for the District 2 congressional seat currently held by Democrat Allen Boyd, stopped in for a brief visit Friday at our offices. Southerland wants to rein in government spending, and called small business “the fastest, sure-fire way to kickstart the economy.” Southerland defended himself against attack ads by his opponent -- “Allen Boyd is lying when he says Steve Southerland is against Social Security and Medicare” -- and called the federal healthcare plan now in place unconstitutional, though he said it wasn’t realistic to expect its immediate post-election repeal.
