‘Enterprise’ no match for 6th grader

Student from Melody Christian Academy wins district spelling bee

Live Oak — Melody Christian Academy sixth grade student Madeline Akes was declared the winner of the district spelling bee on Thursday. Students in fifth through eighth grade gathered at the Suwannee County School Board office for a head-to-head competition to determine who would go on to represent Suwannee County at the Times-Union Regional Spelling Bee in Jacksonville.

Competitors from MCA, Suwannee Middle School, Westwood Christian School, Suwannee Intermediate School, Branford High School and Branford Elementary School were represented in the district spelling bee.

Akes won the spelling bee with the correct spelling of “enterprise.” Lane Friehofer from Suwannee Middle School was the runner-up.

Akes will travel to Jacksonville on Feb. 16, to compete at the Regional Spelling Bee.
