Purple Pinkie Day at SPS

Live Oak — “After 25 years of hard work, Rotary and its partners are on the brink of eradicating this tenacious disease (Polio), but a strong push is needed now to root it out once and for all . . . “ from rotary.org.

So, on Feb. 7 members of the Rotary Club of Live Oak visited Suwannee Primary School to join in the effort to raise money for this cause. Through the Purple Pinkie Project, they make Live Oak school children part of the solution.

Since $1 is the estimated cost to immunize one child from Polio, each time a student gave $1 with his or her parents’ permission, a pinkie was painted purple as a symbol of one child immunized from Polio.  There were 717 fingers painted to help stop Polio that day.

The next Purple Pinkie Day is Thursday, Feb, 14 at Suwannee Elementary School. Photo submitted.
