Live Oak —
County officials still don’t know what will come of a fraudulent bond that was to secure a road into the now-abandoned Nathan Oaks subdivision.
An investigation by the Suwannee Democrat in July 2009 revealed that the man who backed the $200,000 bond had been jailed on federal fraud charges. The Nathan Oaks subdivision was foreclosed on earlier this year. When questioned by a Democrat reporter at a recent meeting, County Attorney Hal Airth said he is waiting for word from state officials on whether the county will receive compensation for the bond.
Suwannee Landing negotiations continue
Meanwhile, Airth and the county coordinator are continuing negotiations with TSS Development concerning the Suwannee Landing fiasco.
The proposed exclusive fly-in community on CR 136 West is at a standstill after the Federal Aviation Administration ruled that allowing use of the county airport for such use was “in conflict with (FAA statutes).” However, the FAA notification letter was not made public for a number of years.
The county has since withdrawn support of the operation and has come into compliance with the FAA. However, a signed contract still exists between the county and TSS for the proposed airpark. TSS Development says it has already sunk $5 million into the project.
