Live Oak — This 1910 United States Census badge is in the private collection of Ft. White resident Red Underhill, who stopped by our offices recently. The 1910 Census was the 13th Federal Census of the United States. The badges were made of pewter and crafted in a manner to give the wearer an appearance of authority. Underhill said the Census worker who wore this badge worked in Corbin, Ky. Underhill received the badge in 1988. "Workers had to turn in a badge to get the pay they’d earned," he said. Underhill said the other 1910 Census badges can be seen in a collection at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.
