Lafayette County voters decided that Republican candidate Mitt Romney is the better suitor for the White House, but as of press time it wasn’t clear if the rest of the nation felt the same way.
Locally, incumbent Sheriff Brian Lamb (Dem.) won that post over contender Aubrey Land Sr. (Rep.), 2,593 votes to 749.
Republican Jeff Siegmeister was chosen by Lafayette voters to fill the Third Circuit State Attorney seat being vacated in January by Democrat Skip Jarvis. Siegmeister won Lafayette County over Democrat Bill Brannon 1,995 votes to 1,176. Whether Siegmeister won the circuit was not made available at press time.
Supervisor of Elections went to Travis Hart (Dem.) who won over Republican contender Clay Rigdon, 2,595 votes to 767.
For county commission, District 1, Lance Lamb (Dem.) took the seat over Charles Driver (Rep.), 2,090 votes to 1,263.
For county commission, District 3, Curtis “Donnie” Hamlin (Dem.) bested Jeff Mowrey (Rep.), 2,150 votes to 1,194.
For School Board District 2, Jeff Walker beat Henry McCray, 1,810 votes to 1,448.
School Board District 4 went to Amanda Tidwell Hickman over Gary “Butch” Smith, 1,835 to 1,384.
Lafayette County voters voted no on a one mill ad valorem tax for the school district. The votes were 1,675 to 1,511.
Wes Douglas received 2,736 votes from Lafayette County for Circuit Judge, Group 5. The only other candidate was Angela Cancio as a write-in. The numbers for Cancio were 76.
Republican Ted Yoho (2,732 votes) easily won Lafayette County for the District 3 representative in congress. He won Lafayette over J.R. Gaillot, Democrat (526 votes) and Philip Dodds, NPA (68 votes).
Connie Mack (2,130 votes) won Lafayette County for United States Senator. He won Lafayette over incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson (1,119 votes).
Halsey Beshears (Rep.) bested Robert Hill (Dem.) for the state representative District 7 seat, 2,347 votes to 938.
