Mayo —
A Dixie County Sheriff’s Officer was involved in a single vehicle crash Tuesday night, March 5, while trying to avoid a deer on SR 51 in Lafayette County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Reports show that at 9:41 p.m. a marked Dixie County Sheriffs Office patrol vehicle, driven by Timothy Roberts, 31, Cross City, was southbound on SR 51, about half a mile south of CR 357. As a deer entered the roadway into the path of the vehicle, the driver was unable to take evasive action to avoid striking the deer and the front of the sheriff’s vehicle struck the deer. The sheriff’s patrol car was moved to the west shoulder of SR 51 prior to arrival of FHP, reports state.
The driver received minor injuries due to airbag deployment and the seatbelt. The passenger John Michael Byrd, 29, Cross City, was not injured. No charges were filed, according to FHP.
