Mayo —
The Lady Hornets softball team will play for the Class 1A state championship today at 4:05 p.m. against the Jay High School Royals in Clermont.
Lafayette earned the right to play for the championship by defeating the Union County Tigers 14-4 in six innings. The game was delayed in the bottom of the fifth inning with the Hornets leading 5-4. When play resumed after 9 p.m. and following a change of playing fields, the Hornets scored eight runs. After shutting down the Lady Tigers in the top of the sixth inning, the Hornets closed out the game after scoring again to 10 run rule the Tigers.
