We would like to thank all that participated in the Christmas Parade this year. We had a record breaking number of floats that presented the judges (Jack and Connie Murcheck from Cindys Motel and Susie Hudson from New Beginnings Church) with an enormously hard decision for placement. However, they did decide and the winners were awarded cash prizes donated by Lafayette State Bank. $100 first place went to Grace Baptist Church, second place of $50 went to Hatchbend Apostolic Church and third place prize of $25 went to BRAE, Inc. We are looking forward to next years parade as we have had a number of people say they were going to enter.
After the parade everyone had a great time in the Park enjoying the entertainment done by New Beginnings Church, (Maryann McCray, Pastor Wayne Hudson, and Cheryl Hollis). We would like to thank Green River Connection Band for their performance for our event.
Door prizes were awarded during the evening from the following businesses in our area. Please support those who support these events for our community.
The Storage Place, Chad's Grill, The Plant People, BJ's Flea Market, The Dust Catcher, Two Sisters BBQ, Subs n More, Croft's Thriftway, Central Florida Land & Timber, Mayo Video and Gifts.
Plans are already in the making for a bigger and better Christmas in the Park, 2006. If anyone is interested in being a part of this event or would like to help please call the Lafayette County Chamber 386/294-2705 for either Christmas or Pioneer Day events.
We would like to thank First Federal Savings Bank for awarding the best decorated house in the city limits a $100 savings bond. The judges (James Lee, Cheryl Hollis, Jody Westerfield, and input from her son Seth,) drove around two nights looking at houses in the area. Hopefully next year there will be a greater selection from which to choose. They did however see lights galore in the apartments, a beautiful tree of lights on a rooftop, but the house that won this year's savings bond was Susie & Tom Caldwell, with snowflakes falling and the care taken to each detail of the decorating.
Our Santa was outstanding taking time with each individual child and their request for Christmas. Sharing with them his special Christmas message. Making sure all these young girls and boys were listening to their parents, keeping their rooms clean, and studying hard in school along with many more items. Handing out goodies for all to enjoy.
We would like to thank you Santa, for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit, Mayo, in Lafayette County.
Again, thank you for making this the best Christmas in the Park ever We are looking forward to an even bigger & better Christmas in the Park in 2006.
The Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce, Jim Hollis, Cheryl Hollis, Vi Johnson, and Dan Snider. Have a Merry Christmas.
