Mayo — Lafayette County Sheriff Brian Lamb advises the citizens of Lafayette County that April 28 is  prescription drug takeback day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Florida Pharmacy.

Last year in October a total of almost 380,000 pounds of unwanted or expired prescription drugs were collected nationwide for safe and proper disposal.

Rather than flushing unwanted medications down the sink or toilet where they may get into our drinking water, or tossing them into the trash where children could have access to them, citizens are encouraged to bring their unwanted or expired prescription drugs to the collection site at North Florida Pharmacy, 229 West Main St. in downtown Mayo, no questions asked. They will then be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for proper disposal.
