Much to do for adults at Lafayette library

Mayo — Adult Programming Coordinator Wayne Griner of Three Rivers Regional Library System has been busy promoting all the activities and programs available for adults at the Lafayette County Public Library. He recently stopped in at the Mayo Woman’s Club and the Rotary Club of Mayo to spread the word about everything that is going on for the upcoming weeks.

“Initially the program started in December and our first planning month was January,” said Griner. “Our goal is to provide programming that you as adults would like to see.” 

He also said he would welcome any suggestions people may have as to what they would like to see on future program activities.

“I’m already very thankful to the Woman’s Club because a lot of my programs are coming directly out of your group and they are fantastic,” Griner told the members. “We’ve had good results and we’ve had a lot of requests for repeats.”

Some of the programs and classes the library has already presented are cake decorating, Pinterest, computer programming, Wii yoga, basic soap making and others. March and April already has a full lineup of programs scheduled including eating with diabetes, extreme couponing, basic winemaking, canning, CPR, an informational program on how to navigate the online social media website Facebook, and even more computer classes.

“I think it’s a wonderful program,” said Woman’s Club member Reba Blackshear. “You’ve got something for everybody.”

“We’re trying to get ideas and we’re trying to get instructors,” said Griner. “Word of mouth has been our best asset, so far.”

One problem he said he faces is getting instructors to come, which is why he is asking for input from the community because everybody knows somebody who is good at what they do.

“I’m looking for leather workers, bee keepers, tanners, anyone who has an art or a craft,” he said. “I would like to find people in your own community.”

The programs begin at 6 p.m. to accommodate those who work during the day and space is limited, so call or visit the library at 386-294-1021 to get a schedule and sign up for your favorite classes.
