MAYO-Branford boys and girls track had little trouble sweeping their tri-meet March 23 over Bell and host Lafayette.
The boys ran away, winning the competition with 91 points, well ahead of runner-up Bell (39 points) and host Lafayette (38 points).
Troy Fields (36-4) and Austin Anderson (33-3) finished second and fourth in the Shot Put for Lafayette. Anderson (106-2) finished second in the Discus. In the Long Jump, Anderson (17-1) placed second and Taylor Fain (15-4) was fourth.
Joseph Demarais (1:02.2) finished third in the 400 run. Devin McCarter won the High Jump (5-10) and placed second in the 110 hurdles.
Anderson (11:59) and McHel Blakely (11:84) went third and fourth in the 100 dash, while Anderson (24.11) finished second in the 200 dash.
Carlos Negrete (5:16) and Ishmel Moreno (5:17) finished second and third in the 1600 run.
The Branford girls easily won their competition with 114 points, ahead of runner-up Bell (28 points) and host Lafayette (24 points).
With a small team, Lafayette only competed in a limited number of events.
Elizabeth Anderson (18:25) and Kaley Koon (19:19) went first and third in 100 hurdles. Anderson (53:37) also won the 300 hurdles and finished second (4-6) in the High Jump.
Shaun Thorton (14.47) was fourth in the 100 dash, while Koon was second in the 1600 (6:34).
Lafayettee hosts Trenton April 6 at 3:30 p.m. before traveling to Jaclsonville April 15 at 10 a.m. to compete in the district tournament.

Lady Hornets receive championship rings
Lafayette High School Lady Hornets won the 2011-12 Class 1A Girls Volleyball State Championship on November 16, 2011 with 20 wins and 1 loss. There have been many celebrations to honor them and the latest event was a ring ceremony held in Mayo at the LHS gym on Thurs. March 22, with the entire staff and student body in attendance, along with Superintendent of Schools Tom Lashley.
