The big game: Branford vs. Lafayette Friday night

Connected by a few miles of US 27, and some with family ties, the Lafayette Hornets and the Branford Buccaneers will separate and go head to head Friday night in the rivalry of the season.

A grudge match is promised. The Hornets have won the last four games in a row in the series, and 17 of the last 20. At 8-1 the Bucs are having one of their better years. Still, they have something left to prove.

As both sides battle for “The Helmet,” an aged and worn helmet, one side of which is painted red and white, the other orange and blue, these powerhouse teams will give everyone what they’re asking for. The score of each years game is recorded on the winning teams side. Both teams players will stretch themselves to their limit as they play for rivalry bragging rights and a spot on “The Helmet.”
