Lafayette downs West Gadsden

Mayo — The Lafayette Hornets stopped the West Gadsden Panthers 34-20 Friday night, Oct. 14 at West Gadsden.

“We are glad to get a big road win at West Gadsden,” coach Joey Pearson said.

The first score of the night came on a Hornet score with 4:33 to go in the first quarter. With just over nine to go in the second, the Hornets scored again. The Panthers answered making the score 14-7.

With about four minutes left in the half, Lafayette’s J.R. Bass ran it in bringing the score to 21-7.

Back from the half, a 10-yard run by Treston Whidden gave the Hornets another score. The point after failed. The score is now 27-7.

Mayo put another score on the board with 2:43 left to go in the third. The Panthers scored with just over six minutes left in the game bringing the score to 34-14.

The Panthers scored again with about 4:30 left, bringing the final score to 34-20.

“We have been improving every week and hopefully we are ready for a big district showdown with Jefferson County this week.”

Lafayette improves 4-2.
