Lafayette jumped out to a commanding 35-0 lead in the first quarter. Shyler Morgan started the scoring with a 51 yard run on the third play from scrimmage. Blade Herring’s kick made it 7-0. Next, following a Jefferson fumble, Nick Bracewell hit Casey Brewer for a 15 yd TD. On the next series following a Jamal Reid interception, Sergio Perez went around the right end for a 27 yard run for TD. Again, the Herring kick was good.
The Hornet Defense forced a punt on the next series and Sergio Perez took the ball up the left sideline for a 42 yard punt return TD with a crushing block laid by Blade Herring. Herring then kicked off for his third touchback of the quarter. On the Hornets next possession, Bracewell hooked up with Perez for a 54 yard strike to make the 35-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
To start the second quarter Senior fullback JD Richardson made his return in good fashion with a bruising 35 yard run which left many Tigers on the ground making the halftime score 41-0.
Jefferson added a score late to make the final 41-7.
The Hornets are now 7-0 heading into the big District clash with 6-1 Hilliard at Friday night’s Homecoming game, October 31.
