Barbara Betty Petrena, 75, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, after an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Pearl Toler Bennett. She was born in Inkster, Michigan, but had lived in Lake City since 2001, having moved here from Hatchbend, Florida. She was a caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother who found great comfort through her faith and tremendous joy through spending time with her family.
She was a loving mother to her sons, Wayne and David Petrena of Lake City, Fla., Donald Petrena of Live Oak, Fla. and Warren Petrena of Tallahassee, Fla.; beloved sister of Leta Smith (Larry) of Leesburg, Fla.; beloved grandmother to Eric (Lori), Brian (Carla), Mimosa, Violet; beloved great grandmother to Madison; a loving aunt to Kerri Clark (Andy) and Lori Feldman; and beloved great aunt to Sarah and Jacob Feldman.
A private family memorial for Barbara was held at the Haven Hospice Chapel on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011. Pearl Leadell Murphy Watters

Pearl Leadell Murphy Watters passed away on Dec. 23, 2011 in Denton, Texas.
She was born in Coosa County, Ala. on July 19, 1919 to the late John Byrd and Lucy Murphy. She was the third of eight children.
She is survived by her children George Wayne Watters and Nancy, Orange Park, Fla. and Colleen Watters Pierce and Lane, Aubrey, Texas. She has five grandchildren, Jessica Watters, Brendan Watters and Kara, Audra Litchfied and Steven, Lori Pierce Armstrong and Turner, ben Pierce, and one great grandchild Brayden Litchfield. One stepdaughter, Alice Marie, Paxton, Jim and family also survive her. Sisters, Mary Lancaster and Robert, Audrey Bell, brothers Otis Murphy and Ray and Wilburt Murphy and Helmi, survive her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, George F. Watters.
She loved to travel and did as a military wife of 23 years then in retirement took many cruises with George.
Pearl was a member of Branford, Florida Chapter #112 OES.
Family and friends will fondly remember Pearl for her beautiful blue eyes, her sense of humor and the love and concern she had for her family.
Services will be held at Memory Chapel Funeral Home, 2200 Skyland Boulevard East, Tuscaloosa, Ala., 35405 on Jan. 3, 2012 at 10 a.m. Viewing will begin at 9 a.m.

Judy Jerry, a resident of Live Oak, fl. passed away Jan 1, 2012 in Orange Park, Fla. She was born on Nov. 5, 1950.
Mrs. Judy Jerry is survived by her children, Valeria Leonard, Willie J. Jerry, Jr., Joyce Jenkins and Denny Jenkins; grandchildren; many other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Judy Jerry will be on Sat., Jan 7, 2012 in the African Baptist Church, Rev. Alex fountain, pastor, Elder Henry smart, officiating.

Mrs. Elaine P. Darling, a resident of Live Oak, Florida, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 in Shands hospital, Gainesville, Florida.
Mrs. Darling is survived by her husband, John Darling; five children, John C. Stoudemire, Kenneth B. Stoudemire, Deanza Stoudemire, Jermaine Stoudemire and Justin T. Darling; grandchildren and many other close relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Elaine P. Darling will be on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Mt. Zion A.M.E. Church, Rev. Willie McLauran, pastor.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at 5 p.m. in the D.M. Udell chapel at D.M. Udell Funeral Home.

James H. Hurst Sr.
June 19, 1924 - Jan. 1, 2012
James H. Hurst Sr., 87, of Frostproof, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012 at the Somers Hospice House in Sebring.
He was born June 19, 1924 in Perry, Fla. to the late Augustus Hansel and Donnie Mae (Walker) Hurst. He has been a resident of Frostproof for 55 years. James graduated from Branford High School and entered into the Marine Corp in 1942. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an expert marksman. Jim married Louise Crane of Frostproof June 13, 1954. He taught biology, chemistry, coached football and baseball, and served as Athletic Director at Frostproof High School in 1957. He was inducted into the Frostproof Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. Jim was an insurance agent with Polk County Farm Bureau for 27 years. He was then a partner with his son Jim Hurst Jr. for 15 years in Hurst & Associates Insurance. Jim was a citrus grower for 45 years. He was active in the First Baptist Church including serving as past chairman of the Board of Deacons. Jim was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
James was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 43 years, Louise; brothers, Hugh, Bob, and Hubert. He is survived by his daughter, Cindy Wise (Doug) of Frostproof; sons, Jim Hurst, Jr. (Belinda) of Lake Wales and Mike Hurst (Kelly) of Avon Park; brother, Carl Hurst of Melrose, Fla.; eight grandchildren, James III, Marshall, Lindsey, Austin, Vicki, Justin, Tyler, and Jade; and five great-grandchildren, Amber, Matthew, Blake, Autumn, and Grace Louise.
First Baptist Church of Frostproof will be open for friends to pay their respects at 5 p.m., with the service beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012. The family will be receiving friends before and after services. Interment will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 at the Silver Hill Cemetery in Frostproof. Public is welcome. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Somers Hospice House (1110 Hammock Road, Sebring, FL 33870). A donation box will be available at the service.
