Mrs. Eunice “Evelyn” Stringer Townsend, 89, of Bell, passed away on Monday, Dec. 26, 2011, at the Tampa General Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born Feb. 14, 1922 in Metcalf, Georgia to the late Arthur E. and Eunice O. (Strickland) Stringer. She was the last survivor of six children in her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Wallace H. Townsend.
Evelyn served her country as a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving as a Navy Nurse in Charleston, S.C. during World War II. Through the years she worked as a nurse in many venues – office nurse, private duty and at Sunland Training Center in Gainesville. She retired as a public health nurse for Gilchrist, Columbia, Hamilton and Suwannee counties.
She is survived by her son, Arthur S. (Jan) Townsend of Thomasville, Ga. /Sedalia, Mo.; and a daughter, Paula T. (Dan) Marczynski of Tampa, Fla.; 4 grandchildren –Matthew (Alice) Townsend, Ethan Townsend, Tara (Matt) Marczynski Slusher, Heather Marczynski and 3 great-grandchildren, Cameron Slusher, Aloria Slusher and Raegan Slusher.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 30, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Branford United Methodist Church with Rev. Lerbie Alligood officiating. Interment will follow in Townsend Cemetery. In Lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project or the American Heart Association. Visitation was held Thursday 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home
