Live Oak —
Nick Early Walker
July 30, 1943 -
April 27, 2010
Nick Early Walker, 66, came to his “journey’s end” and went home to be with the Lord and Savior on April 27, 2010. Nick’s strong commitment to his community was one of his passions. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madison, past member and Vice President of the Madison Rotary Club, Founder and past President of the Lovette Wildlife Hunt Club, member of the Madison Elk’s Lodge, member of the American Legion Post 224 and an active member of the Florida Lemon Law Arbitration Board under the Attorney General of Florida.
Nick’s passion for his community was only exceeded by his passion for his family, friends and love of the outdoors. Sharing hunting, fishing and gardening with the ones he loved was his idea of living life to the fullest. His strength of character was known well by all who were blessed to know him as honesty and integrity were his personal hallmarks. Another great man, George Washington, once said, “I hope I shall possess firmness and virtue enough to maintain what I consider the most enviable of all titles, the character of an honest man.” Nick Walker not only maintained, but personified this title. All blessed to know him have been blessed beyond measure by him; our lives are better because of him.
Born July 30, 1943 in Tampa, his family moved to Live Oak, Fla. when he was six months old. This is where he resided until joining the United States Navy. While in the Navy he was stationed at the N.A.S. in Pensacola, Fla.
In 1974 Nick brought his family to reside in Madison where he worked in and eventually owned his own auto parts business until 1994 when he semi-retired to begin working as a watermelon broker until final retirement in 1998.
Nick was preceded in death by his father, Chandler Walker; stepfather, Buford Melton; Sister, Carolyn Jones and nephew, Terry Jones. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Diane Walker; son Neil Stier (Pamela) Cantonment, Fla.; three daughters, Wendy Pate (Phillip) Sylacauga, Ala., Kimberly Dykman (Steve) Gainesville, Fla., Heather Motes (Robert) Milton, Fla.; Nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Mother for whom he had great admiration, Frances Melton; Sister, Barbara Crain (Jimmie); Brother, Larry (Kaye) Walker; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, honorary son, Mike Browing and many dear friends.
To honor his life, a memorial will be held a Fellowship Baptist Church of Madison on Saturday, May 1, 2010 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church of Madison, 1997 Northeast Colin Kelly Highway, Madison, FL 32340 or Covenant Hospice of Tallahassee, 1545 Raymond Diehl Road, Ste. 102, Tallahassee, FL 32308-1530.
