Live Oak —
Job filled. Randy Harris, former Suwannee County public works director, is the newly hired county administrator. Commissioners voted June 5 to hire him. He is the first person in our county to hold that title, with the added responsibilities. Commissioners began advertising for the position in March, right after the Suwannee County Board of County Commissioners instructed Board Attorney Hal Airth to amend the job description from college degree required to preferred.
This leads us to what we stated in January in ‘Our View: A position being groomed?’
We stated then that changing the wording so that a college degree wasn’t required made it sound like some commissioners had someone in mind for the job without that qualification.
Randy told the Democrat in January that he didn’t possess a college degree.
And here we are today.
Congratulations, Randy. We support you, as long as the best interest of the county is always your focus.
We will be watching.
