Live Oak —
Tropical Storm Debby rolled in overnight last week and packed her punch. What a punch it was. Suwannee County is still reeling from the downpour. There was so much rain in such a short time that it had nowhere to go but pool in low lying areas.
After the initial shock of the flooding, the damaged homes and businesses, the sinkholes and a downtown Live Oak district that is merely trying to survive, we have to talk about the tremendous outpouring of neighbors helping neighbors.
We have seen so many people helping others during this devastation that there are literally too many to name. You know who you are though, and you probably wouldn’t want the recognition anyway. That is why we love this county. We have our problems, and what county doesn’t. But when it really matters, we all pull together and help one another out.
From hundreds helping out Melody Christian Center which flooded, to strangers helping evacuate strangers, we have heard and seen first hand the reason people call Suwannee County home.
You don’t have to know someone to help. Volunteers are needed throughout the county. Just call the local emergency operation center at 364-3405 and find out if there is anywhere you can help. Or, just hop in your vehicle and take a short drive. We are sure there are people that need help post-flood in your neighborhood.
