Rant & Rave - Aug. 10, 2012

Live Oak — I am astonished to learn that our Sheriff’s Department and Police Department does not involve its Deputies/Officers in any force on force training or active shooter training within the agency. I am a retired south Florida Deputy who moved up here and thought that Sheriff Cameron was doing great things here. I have recently had some time to speak to some of the Deputies and have learned that there is no in service training in the Sheriff’s Office or Police Department and looking at most of the Deputies and Officers does not make me feel very safe. Sheriff, Why do you not train constantly. Why is there no in service training in your agency? Let’s take a look at the Colorado shooting and think about training our people better. I want to know that when I call 911 I am getting the very best of the best.

I just want to say that I am sorry to all the people whom grew up here and will remain here NOT because its a bad town but because the people whom run it don't give a S**T about the citizens. There are some truly beautiful people whom reside here and deserve better treatment!!! GOOD BYE LIVE OAK!!!!!

This is for everyone mowing yards. Blow your grass clipping into your yard not into the street/highway. This is for the city and country.

The BOCC brags about being debt free, over 1/2 of our budget comes from state & federal "welfare checks". It's like an old guy living in a shack. He spends more patching it up than it's worth instead of making something decent. It crumbles while he has millions rotting in a mattress, or in our case, low yeild cd's. We got millions to build a hospital, decades ago, more for a perimeter rd. that won't be done in our lifetime at this rate. If these grants were used as intended it would generate jobs, income & improve the quality of life here. We are probably the most populated welfare co. in the state, brag on that! If the BOCC won't use these funds as intended we may lose over 1/2 of the budget, think on that come election day. No more "free $$" to stash away. This kinda thing got to stop. Keeping folks poor & in the dark makes it alot easier to control 'em.

I know why businesses fail here, they don't back their work, don't show up when they say they are and without a call, they lie. Then so many pretend they are "christian" businessess !!

****

This county is backwards and unless different people are elected nothing will change

I find it very disheartening that our school board continues to support our schools not buying local, even buying out of state, without giving local businesses an opportunity. Don't they understand how important it is to support local so local can support our town and schools in return, we are giving tax dollars to other counties and states that would normally go to Suwannee when they do this.

So, during a funeral procession a Sheriff's Deputy rear ends another deputy after failing to notice the procession stopped ahead of him but... NO charges were filed?? REALLY!?!?!? I bet if it was a civilian that rammed into the back of the patrol car, he/she would have at least received a careless driving ticket.

****

It's a lot easier to keep a balanced budget when over 1/2 of your income is fed. & state checks. Ask them what they are doing with the hospital grant $$$. On top of their hefty salaries, per diems, stipends, juicy pensions, etc, how's 'bout $1.5 mil.annually for their health bennies while the health dep't. is sending folks to other counties. Wine & liquor sales are probably the biggest economic windfall this county has seen in years for the private sector, no thanks to the good 'ol boys.

****

I thought we had a sunshine law preventing closed meetings and secret deals. What is project Christmas? Been asked to sign petition no info available! Talked to councilmen, mayor, chamber no info. What is the big secret they are playing with your tax dollars!

I am a flood disaster victim. My husband is in remission from cancer. Every time I go to an agency or ask for aid, the door is closed in my face for some reason or another. I am still not in my house, I am still seeking aid. The way it is going I probably won’t get into my house until December. Kudos to Walmart, First Baptist Church, Live Oak Church of God, Love INC for giving me food and water when I needed it the most. Kathleen Shafii, 386-688-7534.

I’m calling in reference to the rant someone made in Friday’s paper with regards to City Hall being closed and the employees been given tons of money. City Hall was closed for a few days because of safety reasons. However, the labor law will not let an employee be paid overtime unless they have worked 40 hours. They set up at the Douglass Center, the emergency management, to bring in people and those people were being reimbursed by FEMA . The money paid out to the employees were being reimbursed. The rest of the article said that. Please before you rant read the entire article or get the facts straight.

Rave, yes Church of Christ, Highway 51 South were still busy Saturday morning, 7/21, at 9:30 a.m. helpin gpeople. I stopped there and discovered a lot of activity going on. I went inside and saw people being helped. A dark haired woman sitting at a table got up, immediately came to me threw her arms open and said give me a hug. I instinctively hugged her and received a very warm honest hug. Then she exclaimed what can we do for you? Love abounds by some real believers, praise God.

****

Shame on you Suwannee Democrat. I called Saturday or Sunday about what a great job the church was doing on Highway 51 for the people in need from the storm. I know it had to be one of the first calls in to go into your paper. It’s not there. Shame on you. Let’s see if you will print this.

****

I want Suwannee Democrat to check with the county commissioners to get a published list of where all the dollars of state and federal money have been spent from the disaster of Debby that she caused during the flooding. I think all the taxpayers got to know the right to find out what the county commissioners and the road department is doing with this money and if it’s going to where it should be going cause I sure can’t see where it’s been spent on the roads or nothing.
