Freedom is Here - The Gift of Life

Mayo — Genesis 2:7 the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

What was it like for Almighty God to transfer the breath of life into a speck of dust?  The light coming from one candle flame measures about 5-10 lumens, depending on the average candle.  The sun is 250 octillion lumens - That’s 250 followed by 27 more zeros!  And that analogy falls short because God isn’t measurable, He’s infinite!

Job 12:10 says, In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.  God has given you the gift of life.  If you’re reading this, that’s a gift.  If you’re breathing at all, that’s a gift!  Deuteronomy 30:20 says the Lord is your life!

Feeling and emotion - joy, happiness, love, peace, smiles - it’s a gift from God!  When you enjoy the sound of the rain - it’s a gift from God!  When you see a baby smile and you smile back - it’s a gift from God!  When you eat a steak grilled exactly to your taste or listen to your favorite song - it’s a gift from God!

Someone may ask, “If life is such a gift, then why does so much go wrong?”  Why is there misery and disease?  Why is there war and poverty?  Why are children born sick?  Why do chunks of mountains slide off and crush people?

Read the Bible, and then go back and observe the world.  You see the beautiful designs from the mind of a perfect God.  You also see the defects that sin has caused.  You see a beautiful, broken world crying out for God to return and make it right!

After Jesus rose from the grave, He breathed on his disciples and said, “receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22).  Those who have been born of the Spirit, have a taste of a sin-sick world made right.  As we live out the the life-giving Holy Spirit in our walk with the Lord, the world is going to see and want what we have.

What you see today is only a dim reflection of what it was, and what it will be again someday.  God will return to wipe out sin and breathe life back into a dying world.  In the meantime, you can be a breath of fresh air to someone who needs life.  Point them to Jesus and let Him breath life back into them!
