FDLE joins search for missing Kamrie Mitchell

Neighboring sheriff’s office lends hand

Live Oak — The Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office have joined the search with the Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office in attempting to locate a missing Suwannee County woman, according to SCSO Sheriff Tony Cameron.

 “We’re still investigating,” said Cameron. “We are still finding leads and still following up.” He said that when his office or the others find a lead, it tends to lead to more so the trail hasn’t run cold.  

Kamrie Cherai Mitchell, 24, was last seen in the Branford, Lake City area on Aug. 25 by her family. She was reported missing on Sept. 2. 

Her white four-door 1992 Pontiac Grand Am was found submerged in floodwaters on 184th Street, about halfway between Wellborn and the Ranchette’s area in eastern Suwannee County, near the Columbia County line on Wednesday, Sept. 5. Part of the road was still submerged in water that came from Tropical Storm Debby in late June.

 As reported previously by the Democrat, Andrelo Larashard Witcher, 33, of 22601 CR 49, O’Brien, was arrested for reportedly threatening Mitchell and others the night of Aug. 25 at the residence of Mitchell’s father, Thomas J. Mitchell III, where Kamrie Mitchell was said to be that night, according to Cameron. Cameron said Witcher is not considered a suspect at this time. He remains in the Suwannee County Jail.  Witcher was, however, a suspect in a missing woman’s case from 2009 in Alachua County, according to Lt. Todd Kelly of the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office who is one of the investigators handling that case. 

Cameron said search teams have canvassed the area where Kamrie Mitchell’s car was found on foot, horseback and by sky in an attempt to locate her. He said the search includes interviews with friends and family and has even went as far as Newberry where Witcher previously resided. While the search continues, Kamrie’s cousin, TaLesha Ashley, said Kamrie’s young daughter, Layla, is staying with her father and his family.  

Mitchell is described as 5 feet 3 inches and 130 pounds. She has dyed brown hair and blues eyes. Mitchell has “Kamrie” tattooed on her left foot, “Grams” and a butterfly on her wrist and “Layla” with a footprint and a birthdate on her right side. 

The Suwannee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone who has any source of information to give them a call at 386-362-2222.
