Live Oak city election: Thomas takes District 2

Live Oak — All results unofficial.

One incumbent will retain his seat on the Live Oak City Council while two seats will be decided in a June 12 runoff.

All charter amendments passed.
District 2 Councilman Bennie Thomas, the incumbent, bested contender Jimmy Cherry 105 votes to 75.

In District 3, Jacob Grantham received 114 votes, or 41.30 percent, followed by Quinn Skierski with 93 votes, or 33.70 percent. Since neither received at least 51 percent of the votes, those two will go to the June 12 runoff. William J. “Jimmy” McCullers received 69 votes, or 25 percent.

District 5 will also go to the June 12 runoff. Incumbent James E. “Ed” Rewis received 65 votes, or 32.34 percent. Keith Mixon followed with 51 votes or 25.37 percent. Mixon and Rewis will go to the runoff. Annette Loston received 44 votes, or 21.89 percent and David Blevins received 41 votes, or 20.40 percent.

There were 3,517 registered voters in the city of Live Oak. Of those, 952 cast their ballots for a turnout of 27.07 percent.

“Everything went really well. I just wish more people would have turned out to vote,” said Supervisor of Elections Glenda Williams.
