Live Oak —
The Live Oak Police Department discovered a marijuana grow operation inside a Live Oak home Wednesday afternoon and the person responsible remains at large, according to LOPD Detective Justin Bates.
LOPD Sgt. Derek Slaughter arrived at the Johnson Avenue home around 4:30 p.m. to deliver a message to a resident there for an out of town law enforcement agency.
“When Sgt. Slaughter arrived at the residence, he approached the front door and smelled the very strong odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the house,” Bates stated in a press release. “Sgt. Slaughter attempted to make contact with the resident to no avail.”
Sgt. Jason Rountree then responded to the residence with K-9 Rock who conducted a sniff search around the outside of the residence for the presence of narcotics. Rock made a positive alert at the front door.
“At that point the residence was secured, a search warrant was obtained and a search was conducted of the home,” said Bates.
There was a complex hydroponic growing system in a bedroom off a hallway with two large marijuana plants ranging from three inches to six inches tall.
“Several items were seized from the house along with the growing system and the new plants,” said Bates.
Charged in the investigation is 36-year-old Larnard Bass of Tallahassee. He was charged with cultivation of cannabis, possession of 20 plus grams of cannabis, maintaining a cannabis grow house and possession of drug paraphernalia.
As of Thursday afternoon, Bass had not been located.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Bates at 386-362-7463 ext. 232.
