Wrestlers place 5th out of 32 at tournament

Four Bulldogs to compete for state title

Live Oak — The Suwannee High School wrestling team competed at the Region 1, 1-A wrestling tournament at Bolles High School in Jacksonville over the weekend (Feb. 8-9). 


The Bulldogs placed fifth out of 32 schools.


Four Bulldogs advanced and will compete for the state title:





Shawn Brown, 145 pounds, Regional Champion


Logan Fletcher, 160 pounds, third place finisher

Dean Shingola, 113 pounds, third place finisher


Phillip Marco, 125 pounds, fourth place finisher



The state competition will be at the Lakeland Civic Center with wrestling starting at 12 p.m. Friday. The event will resume Saturday, Feb. 16, at 10 a.m.


On Feb. 2, the SHS wrestlers won district runners-up. The team brought home five district champs: Dean Shingola (freshman), Scott Bucsok (senior), Shawn Brown (junior), Tyler Foster (freshman) and Logan Fletcher (senior). There were two runner-up champs: Phillip Marco (sophomore) and Sasha Key (sophomore) and three fourth places: Brandon Hucko (sophomore), Robert Rodriguez (sophomore), Marcus Mapp (freshman).
