The art of self-defense

Girl Scouts get a lesson in Branford

Submitted

Girl Scout Troop 225 was recently invited to attend a Women's Self-Defense class to earn a badge at AKKU Studio in Branford. The class was attended by leader Sabrina Erney, co-leader Angie Fennell, Jessica Erney, Haley Smith, Ariana Fennell, Morgan Shattuck, Echo Powers, Danielle Barker and Shelly Stormant. The owner and teacher, Tim Walker, is a 4th degree black belt in American Kempo Karate. He has been teaching Karate since 1992. He was assisted by Robert Williams, a long-time student of Mr. Walker's, 3rd degree brown belt, BHS student and Boy Scout.

The Girl Scouts learned basic self-defense maneuvers and, most importantly, how to stay out of a situation in which they would need to defend themselves physically. They learned to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid being a victim. Learn more about Walker's AKKU by calling him at 386-935-3777 or visiting the Web site at www.akkuinc.com.
