Rant & Rave - Jan. 27, 2012

Live Oak — Just want to let y'all know that the Suwannee Chamber of Commerce isn't promoting Suwannee County or it's members. I'm in the process of relocating our family farm to Suwannee and will be dumping a bunch of money into the local conomy by hiring a surveyor, land clearer, fence guy, etc. I've called the chamber twice now and spoke to a very uninterested women and have yet to receive one shred of info. I don't think I'LL join.

I wonder if Senate Bill 98, sponsored by state Senator Gary Siplin (D-Orlando) and which is being carried in the House by state Representative Charles Van Zant, (R-Keystone Heights), once enacted into law, will be popular when the student-led prayers are segregated by sex, the males bow to the east (Mecca) and are praying to Allah!  Allah Akbar!

As a parent of a high school student at Suwannee High school could someone please tell me why there was not a mid term schedule by subject on designated days and if there was a schedule why the teachers did not abide by it. This would have prevented students from having 3 or more tests on one day and no tests on other days. And we wonder why our students are not successful.

I have a few "Rants" and I will send those in later but I want to start with a big "Rave" to the citizens of Suwannee County for "keeping it together" in the last couple of months. First, despite there being Holiday signs in public places with no mention of Christ, THE WORLD DID NOT END! Way to go! Second, we were led to believe by some that the repeal of the liqour laws would immediately lead to prostitutes on every corner and people urinating in the streets and it hasn't happened! Keep up the good work Suwannee!

OK, I'm going to try to be nice. This is a rant about the lazy pigs (oops, not nice) who live in Suwannee County and especially near me south of the city. I live near 99th road (Aven Road) which connects 142nd with CR 252. Everyday I see fresh beer cans, 12 pack boxes, fast food bags and even full bags of household garbage strewn up and down the sides of the roads. How can it be so easy for these people to decide to throw their trash out of their cars instead of take it home? Fast food bought in town, eaten in the car ON THE WAY HOME, bags thrown out the window instead of taking it to the garbage can at home. (did I say PIGS already?.Come on people, stop littering and take your trash home!

Sounds to me like the County (or King George) has already selected the person to be the Manager and now they are just modifying the qualifications to fit that person. It is absurd to put a person without a college degree into the most important job in the County. Seems like this is another case of the tail wagging the dog.

I think it is crazy and insane that everyone is up in arms over Mint Romney's tax return. He has done nothing illegal. He has only complied with the current tax system. Besides, the tax rates are still too high anyway. I say support whichever candidate vows to cut taxes.

What’s the deal, my wife and I attended the Martin Luther King Jr. parade in Live Oak. The parade was somewhat of a disappointment. The reason for our disappointment was that on this day it has been set aside to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., there was one very important thing missing. We didn’t see a single flag, American flag. This was the first parade on a holiday that we ever attended where the United States colors was not flown. I don’t know if it was intentional or an oversight, either way, it was very disgraceful.
