Spreading God’s love
By April Pinkard
When Melody Scott was just 13 she answered God’s call to become a Christian. Little did she know that years later that decision would allow her to be the mother of 7 children and travel the world.
Melody grew up in a small town in Dawson, Georgia. Her family never traveled and were content to go only a few miles from home. Jeff Scott and his family were very different. They had many adventures and traveled, but when Melody met Jeff it was love and the couple married.
Melody and her husband had four children and became missionaries. They have been to places like Brazil, Haiti, Roatan and Latvia. It was in Latvia that they befriended three children who captured their hearts. They hosted the children in their home, and eventually, God touched their hearts and made it possible for them to adopt the children. They now have seven beautiful children.
Some of the children travel with their parents on missionary trips and the younger children are anxiously awaiting the time when they will be big enough to accompany their siblings and parents on missionary trips together.
Melody and her family are excitedly awaiting a February Mission trip to Honduras, where they will spread God’s word and teachings on purity. “The main goal of talking about purity is to try to change the lifestyle of some of these young girls who sell themselves to eat.”
Melody talked about their mission trips to the GFWC Live Oak Woman’s Club at the January meeting.
“It breaks your heart what they have to do to survive, but we have a goal and are hoping to change that,” she said.
