In recent weeks there has been much confusion regarding the Suwannee County Animal Shelter and the Suwannee Valley Humane Society names. Suwannee County Animal Shelter is the only animal shelter in Suwannee County, with the exception of the City of Live Oak Animal Control.
Suwannee Valley Humane Society is no longer located in Suwannee County and is located in Lee, Fla. A recent promotion by a theater in Lake City stated that the proceeds of food brought in would be given to the Suwannee Valley Animal Shelter. There is no such organization. In fact, the food was given to the Suwannee Valley Humane Society and the local Animal Shelter received nothing from this promotion.
If you have money, food or supplies that you want to give to a good cause please support your local animal shelter instead of going out of town. The Suwannee Valley Humane Society is needy also but you should be aware of the fact that when you give to them the Suwannee County Animal Shelter receives none of that money.
