The boy who was the subject of an Amber Alert earlier tonight has been found safe and was never in danger, Suwannee County Sheriff Tony Cameron said.
The boy was being driven by his mother to see his father in St. Johns County, Cameron said.
An eyewitness saw the boy in the trunk of the car at a Suwannee County rest stop on I-10 and notified authorities. However, said Cameron, the back seat opens into the trunk on the vehicle, a Hyundai Elantra, and “the child was crawling back and forth.”
Cameron praised the caller regardless.
“In a situation like this you have to err on the side of caution,” he said. “We applaud the motorist who notified the sheriff’s office. We’re just glad it wasn’t the scenario we first thought.”
