Thanksgiving memories with Leeta Bronson

Live Oak — The Thanksgiving holiday brings about a cheerful heart and often a time of reflection. Every person has a story or a family tradition that occurs around the holiday. Local resident Leeta Bronson tells hers.

“Thanksgiving is always a very wonderful time for me and my family,” Bronson said. “My 90-year-old mother and my five siblings are all still living, and if we can’t all get together, we call the ones who can’t and wish them a happy Thanksgiving.”

Bronson said every year “there is always a lot of family and friends which leads to reminiscing and storytelling.”
And of course with Thanksgiving comes with a time of making memories around the dinner table.
“Everybody brings a favorite dish like egg custard pie, chocolate delight, and different vegetables. And of course, we have turkey and traditional dressing,” said Bronson.

And like every family, there’s always that one special dish that makes the holiday so unique.

“One dish that most southerns aren’t familiar with is a tradition that I am honored to carry on and it belonged to my beloved mother-in-law now passed on. It is called Dry Dressing. It is crunchy with toasted pecans and we serve it with turkey gravy. It is really good and a big favorite among my family

“The most important thing to me about Thanksgiving is even though we give thanks all year long for our many blessings, there is just something about the Thanksgiving season that makes me so incredibly aware of just how blessed I am to have family and friends, to be able to freely worship, to live in a free country where brave men and women are willing to risk their lives so I can have freedom. This time of year reminds me to slow down and give thanks, because I have so much to be thankful for.”
