Lady 'Dogs beat Columbia Tigers

JV falls to Lafayette varsity

Live Oak — Both Suwannee High School Lady Bulldog soccer teams traveled to Lake City Dec. 21 to face the Columbia High Tigers. This was the second meeting of the season for both schools and it was sure to be a grudge match. The first time they met, Suwannee's JV won 2-0 and varsity won 1-0.

Varsity played first because it was Columbia's Senior night. The only goal of the game came 25 minutes into the first half by Suwannee and it was a beautiful corner kick by Molly Vogel which curled left into the net. The varsity record is now 10-5-2 and Columbia's is 7-12-1.

The JV team had a similar contest against Columbia's JV team. It was a defensive battle until 10 minutes into the second half when Megan Letu, who usually plays holding mid, was moved up to attacking mid and was able to get a shot on goal that rebounded off the goalie and went in. JV remained undefeated against other JV teams and are now 10-0-1. Columbia's record is now 4-7-1.

Both teams play their last game of the regular season against Ridgeview in Jacksonville on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013. Varsity is set to play in the district playoffs the week of Jan. 14 in Jacksonville hosted by Atlantic Coast.

On behalf of the Lady ‘Dogs soccer teams, we'd like to wish all readers a Happy New Year.

JV match against Lafayette

The Lady ‘Dogs JV team traveled to Mayo on Tuesday, Dec. 18 to face Lafayette's varsity team. Suwannee counted this as a scrimmage and a warm up for their next game against Ridgeview. It's a good thing that it didn't count because the Lafayette varsity was just a little better than the JV team on this day.

It was pretty evenly matched throughout the game but Lafayette got the edge with their second goal midway through the second half. There were two yellow cards during the game, one for each team. The one by Lafayette was due to a push in the back and a face plant to Suwannee's right forward, Shan Johnson. There was some unsportsmanlike behavior on both sides and the game ended in a 2-1 loss for Suwannee.

Both Suwannee teams’ game against Ridgeview on Thursday, Dec. 20 was canceled due to heavy rain.
