Live Oak —
The Suwannee Bulldog wrestling team placed second with Ocala Forest in the annual Billy Saylor Invitational that was held at Suwannee High School Friday and Saturday.
Out of the 11 teams represented, Lincoln took first place.
Shawn Brown won the Best Match Award in the 152 pound weight class and Logan Fletcher took the Outstanding Wrestler Award in the 171 pound weight class.
“It was pretty exciting,” said SHS wrestling coach David Laxton. “Logan Fletcher won in overtime. He beat a kid from from Florida High. Shawn Brown, he won his match against a kid who only lost one match the whole season.”
Laxton went on to say that the rest of the team did extremely well.
“Usually in a 32 team tournament, we usually end up placing 11 or 12,” said Laxton. “We placed third in the Sandlewood Tournament.”
Laxton said that he has a very young team and only one senior and one junior out of his team. The rest are freshmen and sophomores.
“Next year we ought to have a really good team,” said Laxton. “If the grades don’t kill us this year, we’ll be alright.”
