Basketball: ‘Dogs tear up Tigers

Fall to Hamilton County

Live Oak — The Suwannee High School Bulldog varsity boys basketball team beat the Columbia Tigers with a final score of 67-46 on Nov. 29 at SHS.

The ‘Dogs made the first point from a foul shot and from then on, it was a ‘Dog domination type game. The Tigers did have an extremely short-lived 5-3 lead right in the beginning, but still early in the first quarter, Raymond Gardner (#23) nailed a 3-pointer. A little later, Jimmie Taylor (#5) made a 2-pointer followed by Deangelo Ross (#4) making a 3-pointer bringing the score to 11-5 ‘Dogs. From then on, the ‘Dogs took an even bigger lead and kept it maintaining a several point spread advantage. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 21-13 in favor of the ‘Dogs.

In the second quarter, the ‘Dogs were able to keep an eight to 10 point lead throughout and with 26 seconds left before the halftime buzzer, the score was 38-28 ‘Dogs. The ‘Dogs were able to grab another two points right before the buzzer bringing the score to 40-28 for the first half.

In the third quarter, the ‘Dogs lead would fluctuate between 10 and 16 points above the Tigers. By the end of the third, the Dogs still held the lead at 49-38.

By the fourth quarter, the ‘Dogs lead grew and with two minutes and 35 seconds to go in the game, the score was 63-42. Both teams made four points each and at the final buzzer, the score was 67-46 with a big ‘Dog victory.

The boys lost to Hamilton County on Saturday, Dec. 1. The final score was 80-75.

The team played Eastside High School on Tuesday, Dec. 4. They will travel to Jacksonville on Dec. 6 to take on Bolles. The JV plays at 6 p.m. and varsity at 7:30 p.m. They play Madison County at SHS on Friday, Dec. 7. JV begins at 3 p.m. Also, a reminder that a game was added on Thursday, Dec. 6 for the varsity girls against Ft. White. That game will begin at 7 p.m.
