SHS boys soccer wins District 3-3A title

Live Oak — The Suwannee High boys soccer team earns the District 3-3A title in an 1-0 overtime win against Stanton Prep last Friday night in Jacksonville.

Suwannee High’s Zach Dennison scored the lone, and winning goal for the game.

Leading up to the final game, the Suwannee Boys played their first district game against Forrest High on Jan. 24 at Wolfson High in Jacksonville.

They mercy ruled Forrest High, 8-0 which advanced the team to the next round on Jan. 25 against Bishop Kenny.

Both teams were pounding shots at the goal but the strong defense and great keepers for both teams did a great job of preventing a goal until Bishop Kenny finally got one through and scored on SHS first 32 minutes into the game.

At halftime, the boys regrouped and came out for the second half fired up. Justin Shirah sent a long pass to Cooper Hall who successfully scored on the Bishop Kenny keeper at 10 minutes into the second half.

Suwannee’s defense continued to shut down any opportunity Bishop Kenny would get. Despite a long hard game Suwannee continued to fight hard and it was well worth it when Chris Ortega sent a cross to Cooper Hall who headed the ball in the net.

Defense would continue to hold off Bishop Kenny and finally come away with the 2-1 victory.

The Dogs hosted Ponte Vedra in the first round of the state playoffs on Tuesday night, the score was not available at press time. Please visit SuwanneeDemocrat.com or Suwannee Democrat on Facebook for up to date coverage.
