Live Oak —
Grades and athleticism played a major role in one student’s career on Thursday morning at Suwannee High School.
With her coaches at her side, senior Nicole Roper signed her letter of intent with Lake-Sumter Community College on Thursday morning for a full-ride softball scholarship.
“It’s a great opportunity for her. Nicole is a team player with good work ethic. She is a good leader,” SHS softball head coach Tommy Chambers said. “Education is the key, softball is just for a couple of years.”
Roper will be attending Lake-Sumter Community College in Leesburg this fall.
According to Greg Mooneyham, LSCC softball coach Greg Mooneyham, she will be a student athlete, with the emphasis on the student part. He said academics come first and her grades and natural athletic talent is why she got picked up by LSCC.
“She brings to the table leadership in the classroom,” Mooneyham said. “She is focused on what she wants to do. She also has the athletic ability to get to a very high level of softball.”
