Live Oak — The Suwannee Bulldogs baseball team picked up wins on Friday night at home against the Union County Tigers by a score of 10 to 7, and on Saturday afternoon at home against the Hollywood Hills Spartans by a score of 13 to 8. With the pair of wins, the Bulldogs improved to nine wins and four losses on the season.

Vs. Union County

In Friday night's game with Union County, the Bulldogs led 7 to 1 through four innings, but gave up a six-run top of the fifth inning to the visiting Tigers to fall into a 7 to 7 tie.  But second baseman Dustin Driver drew a bases loaded walk to bring in the go-ahead run in the bottom of the inning, and right fielder Will Shanahan drilled a two-run single in

the bottom of the sixth to give the Bulldogs a final margin of victory of 10 to 7.

Suwannee banged out 13 hits in the game and drew three base-on-balls in scoring a run in the first, two runs in the third, four runs in the fourth, a run in the fifth, and two runs in the sixth.

Starting pitcher Trey Owen had three hits (including a triple), a run scored, and two runs-batted-in to pace the Bulldogs. Left fielder Wyatt Jackson had two hits, a run scored, and a run-batted-in, first baseman Cody Gamble collected two hits and a run scored, Dustin Driver had two hits, two runs scored, two runs-batted-in, and a pair of stolen bases, and Will Shanahan contributed two hits and two runs-batted-in. Shortstop

Parker Stephens had a base hit and two runs scored, and right fielder Tim Carter added a base hit and a run scored.

Vs. Hollywood Hills

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5 to 0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, but trailed 8 to 6 after five and a half innings of play. Suwannee scored the final seven runs of the

game, with two runs crossing home plate to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, and then erupting for five runs in the sixth to take the win.

Center fielder Trey Owen once again led the Bulldogs at the plate by collecting three hits (two doubles), scoring two runs and driving in a pair of runs. Left fielder Wyatt Jackson and shortstop Parker Stephens each had two hits each (with each collecting a double), scored two runs each, and drove home two runs apiece. Third baseman Rhett Baldwin had two hits (a double), and a run-batted-in, and first baseman Cody Gamble

chipped in with two hits, scored two runs, and had two runs-batted-in.

Second baseman Dustin Driver had a base hit, scored a run, and drove home two runs, while right fielder Tim Carter had a base hit, a run scored, a run-batted-in, and a stolen base.
Will Shanahan started on the mound and pitched into the fourth, when Josh Lessman came on to earn the win in relief. It was the second win of the season for Lessman.

"It was a great week for our baseball team in winning three games. It got started with a huge district win on the road in Wakulla on Tuesday night (March 12), then finishing it off with a pair of weekend wins over Union County and Hollywood Hills,” said head coach Terry Mixon. “Pitching is key, and we are still searching for a fourth guy to step up and fill a spot that needs to be filled. We are working hard in the bullpen, so it is just a matter of taking it from there to the mound at game time and getting the job done.”

The Bulldogs were scheduled to play in Alachua County against Newberry Monday and against Buchholz on Tuesday on their turf. See the results of those games in a future edition.
