Tigers shutout the ‘Dogs

Oaken Bucket stays in Lake City for one more year

Live Oak — The Oaken Bucket was up for grabs Friday night at Tiger Stadium in Lake City. However, the Tigers made sure the Suwannee Bulldogs wouldn’t be riding back to Live Oak with the trophy.

The Tigers (9-1-0) won a shutout game against the Suwannee Bulldogs (3-7-0). The final score was 40-0.

The Tigers won the toss, but deferred till the second half. Two plays into the game, the Tigers intercepted the ball. The very next play, the ‘Dogs almost got the ball back on a foiled pass-play. The Tigers kept working their way down the field gaining first downs and yards and shortly after, scored their first touchdown of the game. They were able to secure the extra point as well putting the score at 7-0. The ‘Dogs got the ball, but were unable to get the first down and were forced to punt back to the Tigers. A couple of plays in, Bulldog Kody Mercer, #45, stopped a pass-play that looked as if it might have meant another touchdown for the Tigers. The Tigers were unable to make any real yardage, so the ball was back to the ‘Dogs. The ‘Dogs were able to get some yards, but not enough to get over the line, so the score remained 7-0 Tigers at the end of the first quarter.

In the beginning of the second quarter, #25, Denzel Washington jumped up to intercept a pass from the Tigers. The ‘Dogs had the ball and Randy Waddy, #5, was able to get some yards for a ‘Dogs first down. Shortly after though, the ‘Dogs fumbled and the Tigers gained possession. A couple of plays later, the Tigers scored their second touchdown, but not the extra point putting the score at 13-0. The ‘Dogs were unable to make any real yardage and as soon as the ball was back in Tiger country, they took it in for another touchdown and extra point. The score was 20-0 with Tigers on top. Right after the ‘Dogs got the ball, they fumbled and once again, the Tigers gained possession of the ball. The Tigers had gained so much momentum, that with less than a minute to go in the half, they scored their fourth touchdown. The score was now 27-0. On the kickoff to the ‘Dogs, they fumbled yet again and the Tigers got the ball. With just 36 seconds left in the first half, the Tigers scored yet again. The score was now 34-0. After they kicked to the ‘Dogs, the clock ran out for the first half with a 34-0 Tigers game.

The Tigers got the ball kicked to them for the beginning of the second half, but were unable to make any real yards and were forced to punt. The ‘Dogs fumbled again because of a bad snap, but were able to recover possession. The ‘Dogs were unable to make any real headway either, so it was back to the Tigers. Soon after, the third quarter ended with the score still 34-0 Tigers.

The fourth quarter was somewhat uneventful except that it meant one more touchdown for the Tigers bringing the score to 40-0. The game soon ended with a 40-0 shutout game for the Tigers.
