Live Oak — The Suwannee Middle School Bullpup basketball team defeated Taylor County recently with a final score of 53-19.

The team played during school hours so middle school students and faculty were able to cheer the ‘Pups on.

Taylor County’s scoring game was weak that day and the ‘Pups were able to dominate the court the entire game. The first quarter ended 16-4 with ‘Pups on top.

With about two minutes to go in the quarter, Jamari Wheeler stole the ball and took it down court for a beautiful layup and two.

By the end of the second quarter, the ‘Pups had secured 24 points to Taylor County’s 11.
The third quarter, the ‘Pups widened their winning margin even more by bringing the quarter to end with a 43-16 lead.

The ‘Pups didn’t let up in the final quarter and kept the heat on.

During halftime, the coaching staff and school took the opportunity to recognize and award the Bullpup football team for their undefeated 2012 season.

Bullpup football coach Brad Scarborough first addressed the entire student body to reiterate that the team had brought home the victory to them and that no one could take that from them. Then Scarborough addressed the team saying this was something that they would take with them for the rest of their lives.

“This is something that you’ll have forever,” said Scarborough. “You can give it to your grandchildren, nobody can take that away from you.”

Scarborough and other coaches handed out individual awards: Most Valuable Offensive Player - Jamari Wheeler; Most Valuable Defensive Player - Sam McMillan; Most Valuable Defensive Lineman - Arantez Hunter; Coaches Award - Steven Jones and the Danny Robinson Award - Steven Anderson.
