Branford —
The Branford High School Buccaneer girl’s softball team beat Melody Christian Academy on Feb. 15 with the final score of 14-9.
“Melody is undefeated this early in the season,” said BHS softball coach Fred O’Quinn prior to game time. “Hopefully we’re here to end that.”
O’Quinn said he was now functioning with the entire team. He had gone about two weeks into the beginning of the season with some of his players still playing basketball.
“I have a few injured players,” said O’Quinn. “But were excited to be here. It’s a pretty day today, hopefully we’ll have a good game.”
It was a seven inning game with the Bucs taking the early lead in the first with three runs to one. Every inning they fared better than Melody. Their best innings were the fourth and the sixth as they were able to grab three and four runs respectively. The final seventh inning neither team scored, but the Bucs had it wrapped up with 14 runs to nine.
