Live Oak —
The Suwannee Bulldog varsity boys basketball team opened strong initially against Madison Jan. 27 and led the Cowboys by a score of 12-4 to end the first.
The ‘Dogs were sluggish in the second but still maintained a 25-12 halftime lead.
The third quarter brought challenges for the ‘Dogs. Suwannee’s score totaled 34 points after the opening plays of the quarter, but then the offense went completely flat. The ‘Dogs did not score again until the six-minute mark of the fourth quarter, in part due to a run of transition one-shot misses from the perimeter with no offensive team rebounding.
Madison stayed alive at the free throw line to bring their team to within four points with 3:00 left in the game (43-39). Senior Suwannee guard Marcus Lane netted a three-point shot, but after a quick Madison basket, their full-court pressure caused a Bulldog turnover for a Cowboy layup. The score was 48-43 with 1:04 left, and Madison began intentionally fouling to take Suwannee to the line. Taylor hit two of four free throws, and tight Bulldog defense kept the Cowboys from scoring in the final minute as Tony Frierson pulled down the final rebound and held the ball for the Bulldog victory, 50-45.
