Bulldog baseball opens with 3 wins

Live Oak — Coming off two wins in the Baldwin Preseason Classic, the Suwannee

Bulldogs varsity baseball team opened the regular season of their schedule

with two wins. Suwannee traveled to Lake Butler on Feb. 11, and defeated

the District 7-1A  defending state champion Union County Tigers by the score of

3-1.  

Starting pitcher Cody Gamble pitched four and two-thirds innings in

picking up the win on the mound, allowing only one base hit while striking

out 10 batters and issuing five walks. Dustin Driver struck out two and

allowed one hit in one and one-third innings, and Parker Stephens came on

in the seventh inning to record a save by giving up one hit and one

unearned run while striking out two batters.

Wyatt Jackson had two base hits and scored two runs, and Will

Shanahan had two hits, one being  a double in the top of the seventh to

drive home a run and give the Bulldogs a 3 to 0 lead going to the bottom

of the inning. Gamble chipped in with two base hits, and Stephens

collected a double and two walks in three trips to the plate. Driver also

got into the hit column with a single to lead off the game.



‘Dogs beat Trojans

On Feb. 12, the Bulldogs traveled to play the Hamilton County

Trojans and came up with a 6 to 1 win. Starting pitcher Josh Lessman went

five innings, recording eight strikeouts while allowing no runs, one hit

and issuing three walks. Wyatt Jackson pitched two innings, striking out

two batters while allowing no walks and hitting a batter.  

Parker Stephens had the hot bat, collecting three hits, scoring two

runs and driving home two runs. Dustin Driver had two hits, a run

scored, a stolen base and a run batted in. Lessman delivered two base

hits along with Cody Gamble, who had a double to deep left centerfield

that drove home a run, to go along with two walks. Hunter Deas and

Jackson collected hits and scored a run each and Braxton Hicks singled

and drew a walk. Rhett Baldwin scored once for the Bulldogs.  

Suwannee will host the Madison Cowboys tonight at 7:00 pm. in the

home opener.



‘Dogs beat Madison County

The Bulldogs played Madison County at home in Live Oak on Friday, Feb. 15, defeating them by a score of 4-3.
Dustin Driver went three innings and struck out five. 
Trey Owen had three hits.
The ‘Dogs played Coffee in Douglas, Ga. Tuesday night and play Columbia in Lake City on Friday at 7 p.m.
